Studio work for the most part has halted due to the great quantity of 'bootlegged' copies of many of the CD's offered on this page. I am not sure whether to be flattered or upset at the quantity of illegal copies available, but it has grown out of control. Please understand and respect the time required to produce any of these works and purchase only copies which contain the UPC bar code.

Earth Song, Voices of Michigan

As humans progressed into the machine age, they slowly began to detach themselves from the rhythms of nature. The frequencies of mechanized and electronic rhythms now replace those naturally regulating rhythms often resulting in stress. Many, including Native Americans understand the importance of maintaining these natural rhythms for a healthy mind and spirit.

Relax and enjoy the sounds of nature accompanied by improvisational classical instrumental compositions.

All natural sounds where recorded in various locations around the Lower Peninsular of the State of Michigan. Most of the bird sounds were recorded in Island Lake Recreation area and Kensington Metro Park.

Honor the Spirits

Native Americans often passed their history on to future generations through song and stories. It was not until the arrival of the Europeans that some of those songs and stories were recorded with the written word allowing many more people to enjoy or learn from them though some meaning was lost in the translation. Many of those songs and stories were sacred and not shared with outsiders and even more were lost in time making any written collection valuable.

“Portraying history accurately for future generations is important to me” James is quoted as saying in an interview by the Detroit News at the release of his second biography. James D. Taylor Jr. draws on his skills as a well-published poet and author, classically trained musician and composer and guided by his Ojibwa ancestors in the recital of poetry from several tribes of North  America accompanied by drum and flute with sounds of nature.

Earth Song-Voices from Asia

In response to your many requests, James brings together the natural sounds from the many countries he visited during his time in the United States Navy accompanied by fresh and unique improvisational instrumental compositions in another from our popular Earth Song series:

Earth Song, Voices from Asia.

Whether on a quite stroll through a Japanese garden, sheltering from a gentle rain on a Chinese hillside, relishing the exotic sounds of an Indonesian rain forest or the sound of blowing desert sands, this CD will most certainly help to relive the stress many of us experience often brought on through a hectic life. There are no synthesized or electronic sounds here; all are natural sounds with real instruments.

Echos of the Forest-Melodies of the Ojibway

After spending almost 10 years among the Ojibway people from the region north of Lakes Huron and Superior, Frederick R. Burton published in 1909 a book collection of melodies transcribed to best of his abilities that he heard and were performed for him. This rare collection of melodies, most of which have remained silent for a century until now, is performed as literal transcriptions for piano and flute. All notes, except for the rare correction, are as Mr. Burton recorded them for future generations to hear.

James has set out to ensure that these 28 melodies will be again heard. Performed on a Yamaha grand piano and transverse flute by Mr. Taylor on instruments at the University of Michigan.

The Jupiter Chronicles

Jupiter has 63 known moons each with a unique character of its own whether its Ganymede’s cracked icy surface or Io’s volcanic plumes.

This CD is unique as it incorporates actual radio frequency transmissions from Jupiter woven into each improvisational composition. Each is performed by classically trained James D. Taylor Jr. on meticulously sampled analog synthesizers taking the listener on a sonic voyage to our solar systems largest planet to visit each of its eight inner moons.

We must offer a hearty thank you to NASA for allowing the use of the radio frequency transmissions used in these recordings.

Earth Song-Voices of North America

Humans often forget that we share this planet with other wonderful and often awe inspiring creatures. This CD shares some of the sounds these creatures make in some of North America’s most noteworthy landmarks such as Yosemite and the Florida everglades.

Renown and award winning virtuoso hammered dulcimer performer/composer Dr. Charlene Berry and producer/director James D. Taylor Jr. have teamed up again to bring improvisational hammered dulcimer music with nature sounds to help us remember that not only do we share this planet but to remind us that we are governed by nature’s clock and not the one on the wall or our wrists.

Sathesis

As an amateur astronomer for 35 years, James has explored our universe both with sight and imagination and has now combined his skills as a classically trained musician with synthesizers and actual radio frequency transmissions recorded by the Cassini spacecraft taking the listener on a sonic voyage to seven moons of our solar system’s most breathtaking planet, Saturn.

These often eerie sounds also include sounds of lightening recorded in 2006 by the Cassini spacecraft.

Star Seed

James was designing/building synthesizers before Walter Carlos became Wendy and the Moog made its introduction. 40 years later James is now utilizing his skills as a classically trained musician to perform on an array of analog and digital synthesizers in which he intertwines actual radio frequency emissions from objects in our universe in his compositions. These often breathtaking and eerie sounds can be listened to alone but when augmented with synthesizers provide an awesome experience and provide a slight reminder that though these sound origins may be different, they are in fact from the same basic elements.

Science has believed for many years that life on earth is a result of a seed from somewhere in our universe falling to our mother earth and many cultures also believe this. This CD may in fact provide sounds of our father.

Please note that there are strong bass frequencies in a few of these compositions and good speakers/headphones are mandatory. Broader descriptions are included inside this CD insert.

The Electric Baroque Orchestra

James D. Taylor Jr. began building tube oscillator synthesizers in the late 1960’s when Bob Moog released his Moog Modular which set the world of electronic music in motion. Walter/Wendy Carlos made the Moog synthesizer a household word with the release of several albums. Motivated by the early pioneers, Mr. Taylor now draws on 40 years of electronics and 20 years as a composer/performer of classical music to bring this CD together providing a unique listening experience of Baroque era compositions on several classic synthesizers such as a Moog Modular, Minimoog, Jupiter 8 and Prophet. These compositions were transcribed, arranged and performed by Mr. Taylor.

The Medieval Moog

The compositions on this CD were transcribed from original handwritten medieval manuscripts similar to the one at the left. They were then converted to modern notation (with the assistance of Dr. Charlene Berry) arraigned and performed by James D. Taylor Jr. on a virtual Moog synthesizer which Robert Moog assisted in its development. Many “old school” methods were used in this production which required more production time (1½ years) than one would expect with modern studio equipment, but the end result is truly respectful of the original composer’s intentions.

Mr. Taylor has done a fantastic job of bringing these 800 year old pieces to modern instruments” Dr. Berry.
