A Wee Bonny Tale-Coming Soon

The original source book: A General History of the Pyrates, from their First Rise and Settlement in the Island of Providence, to Present Time, by Captain Charles Johnson, London, 1724 is often regarded as the bible of pirate books and through that publication we learn of Ann Bonny and Mary Reed. As we reviewed material for this fact-based fictional account of Ann Bonny and Mary Reed, we are astounded at the plethora of misinformation regarding her and none of these ever cite their sources, perhaps a sign of the times we live in. It is a shame that these are not checked or verified, and too many people would believe them to be fact. We clearly state this is a fact-based fictional novel and will emphasize that the content of this novel is merely for entertainment and not to be used for research or study.

There are in fact a couple notable original source biographical publications regarding these two women, but that is not the scope of this work. A General History of the Pyrates alludes to the possible sexual relationship between Ann Bonny and Mary Reed and this book will expand upon that in this fact-based fictional account of the pirate Ann Bonny and Mary Reed.

Their story begins here:

The National Library in Madrid reorganized in 1850 and a librarian discovered a hand written manuscript that had been donated by an anonymous donor in 1764. The velum bound manuscript had not been catalogued and the librarian discovered it was a chronicle written in the hand of Ann Bonny, a pirate whose infamy began in the pages of The Tryals of Captain John Rackam and other Pirates, authored by Robert Baldwin in 1721. Of all the accounts Mr. Baldwin chronicled, the fate of Ann Bonny and Mary Reed were unknown. It would appear that Ann chose to correct that oversight and write about their adventures which begins when they evaded the death sentence of hanging to recover treasure buried by Calico Jack, then purchased a frigate and impersonated revenue collectors to collect taxes on the Spanish who was actively recovering treasure lost in 1715 when a devastating hurricane wrecked 11 of 12 treasure ships bound for Spain along the coast of Florida. With the wealth they amassed through their skillful manipulation of the Spanish, they travelled the vast expanse of the oceans seeking adventure and exploring other cultures enriching their lives beyond the wealth of just money alone to retire in Spain.

This fact-based novel certainly has a place on the shelf for anyone interested in the two most noteworthy pirates of that era. Study your charts and plot your course as we venture onto the high seas of romance in the life of two pirates in the West Indies.
